I'm getting ready to change out my coolant and when I was reading the service manual, they refer to a special service tool T3880806 (tank prop). I can't find any pictures of it anywhere and it's no longer available from any Triumph stores. I can't imagine it would be that hard to fabricate but I want to have it ready for when the coolant is delivered.

Can someone here put a picture up of one with measurements (length, etc). I think from that, I can make one of my own...or what do you use instead of the OEM tool? I haven't tried to lift the tank yet so it may be obvious what to do once it's up...I dunno.

Thanks!

Depends on your bars, but I just use a cable tie between the bars and the front lug on the tank. Also can just cut a piece of wood to fit in. I did make a prop out of 1/4" bar with a little cross bar. Found the cable ties easier to find. Worth mentioning to ensure you loosen the rear mount bolt. Apparently can cause damage to the spot welds that hold the rear lug to the tank.

Thanks and thanks for the hint on the rear mount bolt.

Hi Timbo-
Made this from a .25" aluminum rod. Pin is about .19" dia, slug at other end = 1.25" dia, bend is necessary.

Nice! I think I can fabricate one of those in my shop. The end near the 12" mark, is that a collet/chuck so the pin is adjustable? What is the "slug" at the other end? I guessing I could use a piece of delrin with a set screw or two to hold it in place.

The pin end threads onto rod and is fixed, it provides a stop that doesn't get into paint is all.
Other (fat) end is a pair of C-shaped clamps with set screws - actually 2 sets, one inside the other.
Good to support as much of the tank mount as possible since it can be rather wobbly otherwise.
Length provides plenty of room, no adjustment necessary, it's just a fancy stick.
